The choice of lenses: the essence of a unique piece

Sight is considered one of the most important senses for the human being. It allows us to interact with external stimuli and to be aware of what surrounds us. We at ottici.shop know how important the correct vision is for a person's well-being, how much it affects the quality of life and how we can take care of it.

How are the materials chosen?

Thanks to the modern lens production laboratory, the sophisticated technology used and the professionalism of our technicians, we have a wide range of prescription lenses, capable of satisfying all your visual needs. The production of a lens is in fact a delicate process, which requires considerable technical skills and specific skills regardless of the material chosen, be it organic (CR) or glass lenses. Choosing the most suitable composition for prescription lenses is essential when purchasing glasses. The physical and optical properties of each material are important for the aesthetic effect and decisive for the performance of the lens.

The first parameter to be taken into consideration when choosing the lens is the refractive index. Directly linked to the value of the visual defect, this parameter will determine the final thickness of the lens: the higher this is, the thinner and lighter the lenses are with the same power. Our lenses are available in a full range of refractive indices

1.5 standard lenses suitable for low to medium diopters (generally not higher than 2.50 D)

1.6 lenses are 30% thinner and 7 times stronger than a 1.5 lens. They provide a vision rich in contrasts and an optically pure image. They are also suitable for medium-high diopters and for mounting on open frames (Glasant).

1.67 lenses are exceptionally flat and thin for great visual quality. They reduce the effect of enlarging (in positive lenses) or shrinking (in negative lenses) of the eye. Recommended in very high powers.

1.74 lenses have the highest organic index currently commercially available. They maintain all the technical characteristics of a 1.67 lens while further reducing the thickness.

Use of lenses

Four types of lenses are chosen based on your needs:

The test goggle with which the specialist carries out the eye exam and simulates for the first time what will be the gradation of the lenses.

Single vision: They are used to correct all visual defects (myopia, astigmatism, farsightedness, presbyopia) allowing vision at a single distance: near or far.

Bifocal: Now produced in very limited quantities due to the advent of progressive lenses, they allow focusing at two distinct fixed distances: far and near (40 cm)

Office: They are new generation lenses recommended for those who want glasses with a wide and comfortable field of view in medium distances. They offer the ideal solution for office work and in all occupations that require concentration in near and intermediate distance vision.

Progressive: Built with the new Freeform technology, they are considered the Top range lenses of every ophthalmic production, for technology, innovation and effectiveness in correcting visual defects related to presbyopia. Progressive lenses, in fact, adapt to the various vision needs, allowing the wearer to see at their best at different distances (from a distance to the reading distance), in this way they are effective at all times of the day. They are still considered the only way to eliminate the use of double glasses.
